Past Court Members - please let us know what year(s) you participated in and bring your memory book to share

Hi-Yu has promoted the West Seattle Community for over 79 years through summer festivals such as Summerfest, Seafair and other local events. This year we are combining the auction, coronation and White Rose Ceremony into an Annual Gala.  The auction raises funds for our scholarship program to help the young women attending colleges. Also, financial support keeps the only community owned float visible in parades like the American Legion Parade, 4th of July Burien Parade and Seafair Torchlight. This year's theme is, Alki Deep -  An Undersea Adventure, promoting the beauty and life beneath the waters of Puget Sound.

Come see 2012 West Seattle Hi-Yu Queen, Kayli Schulz crown 2013 Queen, April Davis and induct her and her court, Junior Queen Madison Stanley-Jones, Princess Olivia Efird, Princess Emily Galvin, and Princess Winter Williams into the White Rose Ceremony. The ceremony used to be an event reserved for women and past court members only but this year, men will see it for the first time and be part of history. We encourage past court members to bring their scrapbooks to share their experiences and fond memories with new court members.

Calling Button Designers and Volunteers!

posted Feb 1, 2013, 11:35 AM by News Master

West Seattle Hi-Yu is looking for your button design. This year's theme is Alki Deep, An Undersea Adventure. If your design wins, you'll be participating in this summer's American Legion Parade (7/20) with the West Seattle Hi-Yu Court. Please bring your button drawings (2" diameter) to the General Meeting, Monday night (6:30 PM), February 4th at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 3050 California Avenue SW. We will make a decision on the winning design later in the week.

Also, we are desperately short of volunteers for this year’s festival! It is time to begin float construction, enlisting business sponsors for the souvenir book, and procuring items for this year's coronation and auction night. We have a great Junior Court, with their families, and a small group of diehard volunteers, but we will not be able to continue preparation for the Summer Festival, if we don’t have more help. This is a great opportunity to fill some of our dreary winter nights & weekends working with other interesting & fun West Seattlelites. Please contact us if you are able to assist!

Volunteers needed for 2013!

We are desperately short of Volunteers for this year’s festival! It is time to begin float construction, enlisting business sponsors, award Senior Court Scholarships, and stage the Spring Tea. We have a great Junior Court, their families, and a small group of diehard volunteers, but we will not be able to continue preparation for the Summer Festival, if we don’t have more help.

This is a great opportunity to fill some of our dreary winter nights & weekends working with other interesting & fun West Seattleites.  It is also a fun way to earn community service hours for school.

Please contact us by email (info@westseattlehiyu.com) or on our Facebook page if you are able to help. Our next general meeting is February 4th at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 3050 California Avenue SW. General meetings are always the first Monday of the month.

We look forward to seeing you!

Summer Festival in December!

posted Dec 12, 2012, 9:14 AM by News Master

December provides many opportunities for our Hi-Yu Junior Court to participate and provides numerous hours of community service assistance.

On Saturday, December 1st, the Jr court attended the Kiwanis pancake breakfast where they sold the annual Hi-Yu glass blown red and white ornaments and the souvenir Hi-Yu pin.  Towards the end of the breakfast the court assisted with drawing raffle winners for the Kiwanis club.  Marines were there also collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.

That evening, December 1st, at 5:30 pm, they introduced themselves to the community on the stage for the Annual Junction Tree Lighting.  They passed the role of "switch throwers" to a little boy and girl, who were chosen from the audience, to light the junction tree.  To see photos of this event, please go to The WS Blog.

The following day, December 2nd and Dec 9th, the Junior Court assisted at two events in the WS Junction.  At the headquarters they passed out candy canes to the community and across the street they passed out stickers to all of the little ones waiting to see Santa. They will also be volunteering this coming Sunday, December 16thSanta will be at City Mouse from 11 am - 3 pm.  Donations are being asked to suppport West Side Baby, WS Food bank and WS Helpline.

If you haven't already, please support Hi-Yu by purchasing a glass blown ornament for $20.00. The funding helps support the construction of our community float and other events through the year.
